Character stars – initial goals for new players

LOTR HoME can be developed in many directions, so it is impossible to predict what will happen next year accurately. In most cases, Developers have 3-5 updates ( up to 1 year ahead at most) already prepared and then they are monitoring analytics to decide in which direction they should go.

They base these on both the community and game needs (community needs the motivation to continue playing while game needs revenue for continuing the development). At this point, we have a few obvious signs for some characters and synergies.

But, in games like this Developers’ goal is to make sure that all characters from the roster have their use at some point. Having that in mind I could easily say that you will need all 49 characters in the current roster on 7*, but neither is helpful nor desirable for a new player.

After all, Hero Collector games are all about min-maxing available resources to have the best possible position for what will come next.

I will try to suggest to you a minimum Stars’ requirements at this point, and then I will update the article after every new update. When deciding which characters to prioritize for farming please check our current Tier List article that prioritizes characters exactly by that category.

Number of stars per character required for a successful start

Aeldred:

  • 1 Star

Alreda The Chieftain

  • 1 Star

Arwen

  • 5 Stars (according to “data-mine” she will be farmable in July via Log-In Kalendar at least)

Azhak

  • 1 Star

Bolg

  • 2-7 Stars (depending on who is your main farming target in Challenge Store)

Chef Krazka

  • 1 Star (I said several times that I don’t like Goblins, but if Moria Raids will have Light or Shadow Requirements, it is not impossible that you will need Goblins, because they are the main residents of Moria, along with Balrog)

Dunhar

  • 3-4 Stars (4 stars are needed for Shadow Quest and you should bring him on 4 stars only if he is closest to reach it, while you farming others)

Eddric

  • 1-2 Stars (2 stars are needed for Shadow Quest and you should bring him on 4 stars only if he is closest to reach it, while you farming others)

Elladan

  • 5 Stars (according to “data-mine” he will be farmable in July via Log-In Kalendar at least)

Elrohir

  • 5-7 Stars (he is on the best Guild Campaign farming spot at the moment and in case you are using him in Arena you should go all the way )

Eomer

  • 7 Stars (5 stars are needed for Light Quest but you should continue farming him as long as Arena Store grants current characters, especially since he is the best damage dealer in the current roster)

Eothain

  • 3-7 Stars (3 stars are needed for Light Quest but if you are f2p who started playing in Soft Launch or on Global release and you can’t afford to change Arena Teams fast, you should rely on Rohan as long as we don’t get new resource farming spots)

Fili

  • 2 Stars

Fro

  • 1- 7 Stars (in case you decided to put Fro in the Arena team on start against all odds you should farm him until you maximize him otherwise only unlock him)

Frodo Baggins

  • 4-7 Stars (all Hobits except Sam are needed on 4 stars for starting Gardener’s Journey adventure T2, you should farm them slowly even later because of Sam Gamgee who can only be farmed there)

Ghazh Ironhide

  • 5-7 Stars (the best character at the current Meta but unfortunately on Guild Node 1-9 where your resources from missions are halved)

Golburz

  • 1 Star (I said several times that I don’t like Goblins, but if Moria Raids will have Light or Shadow Requirements, it is not impossible that you will need Goblins, because they are the main residents of Moria, along with Balrog + Golburz is farmed in Arena Store so whenever you can you should spend Arena Coins on his shards)

Grimlurz

  • 1-4 Stars (my favorite character but at this point, there are better synergies with Mordor members – can be farmed early so he may be your solution for 4* Shadow quest)

Grimpa

  • 1 Star (I said several times that I don’t like Goblins, but if Moria Raids will have Light or Shadow Requirements, it is not impossible that you will need Goblins, because they are the main residents of Moria, along with Balrog)

Gurhur the Brute

  • 0-7 Stars (if you are f2p just ignore him, only if you are Big Spender or Kraken farm him as long as he is in the Arena Store)

Halbarad

  • 2-7 Stars (depending on who is your main farming target in Challenge Store)

Herendil

  • 1 Star (I suggest starting to farm him as soon as the opportunity appears – new Gondor characters are a few updates away)

Kili

  • 1 Star

Lady Eowyn

  • 3-7 Stars (3 stars are needed for Light Quest but if you are f2p who started playing in Soft Launch or on Global release and you can’t afford to change Arena Teams fast, you should rely on Rohan as long as we don’t get new resource farming spots)

Leliel

  • 1/5 Stars (There are 6 Elves and you need “only” 5 of them on 5* for unlocking Elrond. You will have to choose between Leliel and Naremiri – Leliel grants you Turqoase needed for Elves while farming Naremiri is a lot cheaper resource wise)

Lomion

  • 5 Stars

Lord Elrond

  • 5 Stars (if you want to maximize the first Legendary all other Elves used to unlock him should be farmed on 7 stars as well)

Mauhur

  • 2 Stars+ (2 stars are needed for Shadow Quest but you should continue farming him if you want to maximize Isengard)

Merry Brandybuck

  • 4-7 Stars (all Hobits except Sam are needed on 4 stars for starting Gardener’s Journey adventure T2, you should farm them slowly even later because of Sam Gamgee who can only be farmed there)

Mirie

  • 2/7 Stars (depending on who is your main farming target in Guild Store – mine will be Wubette)

Morzha

  • 1Stars+ (just unlock him unless you want to use Isengard to counter Elves as someone suggests / there are better counters though)

Naremiri

  • 1/5 Stars (There are 6 Elves and you need “only” 5 of them on 5* for unlocking Elrond. You will have to choose between Leliel and Naremiri – Leliel grants you Turqoase needed for Elves while farming Naremiri is a lot cheaper resource wise)

Nurraz

  • 1 Star+ (unless you are Kraken who maximizes Grumhur)

Orfuz

  • 1 Star (I said several times that I don’t like Goblins, but if Moria Raids will have Light or Shadow Requirements, it is not impossible that you will need Goblins, because they are the main residents of Moria, along with Balrog)

Pippin Took

  • 4-7 Stars (all Hobits except Sam are needed on 4 stars for starting Gardener’s Journey adventure T2, you should farm them slowly even later because of Sam Gamgee who can only be farmed there)

Robel

  • 3 stars at least (as soon as you unlock him he should be on your daily farming status – Haradrim characters will be in the next update)

Rokma

  • 4-7 stars (4 stars are needed for Shadow Quest and Rokma should be definitely 1 of the Shadow characters used for reaching requirements)

Pippin Took

  • 3-6 Stars (Sam is farmed through the “Gardener’s Journey” adventure and the 7th star will be gained on the last Chapter of Tier 2. My guess is that he will be needed for unlocking some new Legendary character, let’s say Gollum;))

Sergent Ara

  • 1 Star (I suggest starting to farm him as soon as the opportunity appears – new Gondor characters are a few updates away)

Shagrat

  • 7 Stars (5 stars are needed for Light Quest but you should continue farming him as long as Arena Store grants current characters, especially since he is the best damage dealer in the current roster)

Strider

  • 4-7 Stars (Road to Rivendell except Sam are needed on 4 stars for starting Gardener’s Journey adventure T2, you should farm them slowly even later because of Sam Gamgee who can only be farmed there)

The Great Goblin

  • 1 Star (I said several times that I don’t like Goblins, but if Moria Raids will have Light or Shadow Requirements, it is not impossible that you will need Goblins, because they are the main residents of Moria, along with Balrog)

Tordok

  • 1 Star

Ugluk

  • 4 Stars+ (2 stars are needed for Shadow Quest but you should continue farming him if you want to maximize Isengard – keep in mind that he is in the Shadow Campaign node that grants minimum XP and resources, but also keep in mind that Ugluk is S Tier)

Uzhan

  • 1 Star (this is a personal opinion – I can’t see the use for him at this moment even though he is Mordor)

Wexxe

  • 1 Star

Wilfyn

  • 1 Star

Wubete

  • 4 stars at least (4 stars are needed for Shadow Quest and Rokma should be definitely 1 of the Shadow characters used for reaching requirements + Haradrim characters will be in the next update)

Yeftu

  • 3 stars at least (as soon as you unlock him he should be on your daily farming status – Haradrim characters will be in the next update)

Conclusion

This is just a start and you can expect changes after every update. We will announce each update so you are informed on time.

As I said, it is impossible to predict everything on time and sometimes accurate prediction can force Devs to change their initial plans in order to not look predictable and unoriginal. You see if many people (such as me) can easily predict what is coming next, then Devs might find it better to make some new plans instead

We will see if Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth goes that way – it wouldn’t be the first time I will witness that and I am talking only about the times when I knew for sure that the change happened.
